LIBR500 Library Researcher Development Course for Graduate Students

LIBR500 is a 4-week online course for Koç University graduate students. The course, which consists of 4 modules, has been created to support the development of graduate students and to assist them during their research processes. Students participating in the course will be familiar with;

  • Overall Library Services,
  • Tips for literature review,
  • Reference and citation management,
  • Open science methods that you can benefit in your academic practice and research,
  • Scholarly publishing and academic ethics,
  • Researcher profiles and research impact measurement.

The course modules will be available weekly. Each week there will be an online Q&A session related to that week’s subject.

Ebru Yurtkoruyan

She is an Instruction and Reference Librarian. She graduated from Marmara University Information and Record Management Department in 2016. She has been working at Suna Kıraç Library since 2016 and in this position since 2019. Her responsibility is primarily to organize and hold library instructions and she is also responsible of creating and updating the content for our LIB101 and LIB500 instructions. She is serving as the liaison librarian for the College of Sciences. As a member of the Reference team she is contributing in our Institutional Repository by gathering and adding metadata.

Ersan Dur

He has been working as a Scholarly Communication & Reference Librarian at Suna Kıraç Library. He graduated from the department of Information Management at Istanbul University. He serves Koç University members, particularly the College of Engineering, in the subjects of research support, e-resources, academic writing, open access publishing and open science. He provides library trainings about EndNote reference management tool, Turnitin & iThenticate (Campus Admin) plagiarism detections tools. He also helps faculty members and reserchers to generate accounts for Turnitin & Itheticate. He is a member of the Library’s Open Access Team to help develop an Open Access policy, procedures and services for the community. In addition, he is responsible for the collection development process for the Koç University Institutional Repository (KUIR) He browses academic indexes regularly to locate published scholarly works that belong to Koç University researchers to develop KUIR collection and support the community about open acces publishing.

Gülfer Göze

Currently the Director of the Academic Writing Program and the Writing Center, Gülfer earned her BA in Western Literature and MA in English Literature from Boğaziçi University, and is working on a PhD. in English from Tufts University. She started teaching writing and providing one-on-one consultations in the U.S. in 2008 and has been a part of the Koç community since 2017. During her academic and professional career, she has presented papers and published articles and book reviews. Since she has been on both sides of the writing process as a teacher and writer, she is aware of and takes into consideration the challenges that researchers face and is excited to help them in their own writing journeys.

İrem Ünal

İrem Ünal is a ANAMED & NIT Branch Librarian. She graduated from Marmara University, the department of Information and Record Management in 2013 and she is currently a master student at the same department. Her experience in Librarianship has been shaped from working in several Institutions. She started working at ANAMED Library in June 2016. She is responsible for the ANAMED and NIT cataloging process, she organizes and delivers instructions to the ANAMED fellows, she is responsible for the ANAMED Library social media platforms and she supports the collection maintenance. A new activity she and her colleague Defne Gier started the podcast series named ANAMED Library: Burada Konuşmak Serbest. In this podcast they invite librarians and archivists to share their accomplishments with a broader community.

Mesut Halıcıoğlu

Mesut Halıcıoğlu is data privacy coordinator at Koç University. Halıcıoğlu manages and coordinates all processes related to the protection of personal data at Koç University and advises all units and research projects at Koç University on Turkish and European data protection law. Previously, he was a legal counsel at Enerjisa and associate at Yazıcı Attorney Partnership. He also worked as a researcher in TUSIAD EU-Brussels Representative Office (between 2019 and 2020) and worked on IT Law, Artificial Intelligence Policies and Digital Single Market Policies.

Çiğdem Yıldırım

Çiğdem Yıldırım is a Senior Research and Reference Librarian at Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. She graduated from the department of Information and Document Management and had her master degree on Istanbul Studies at Istanbul University. She provides support in research, e-resources, open access publishing, reference management tools, research data management and creates library guides, trainings and seminar events around these topics to the university members, particularly to the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. She prepares research analytics reports for faculty, research groups or departments upon request. She is a member of the Library Open Access Team to improve open access policy, procedures and services. She also takes roles in the working groups of Research Data Management and Data Analytics under the Koç University Digitization Program in order to prepare a roadmap to achive the university’s goals related to research data management. In addition, she represents Koç University in the sub-working group of "Turkey Open Data and Research Data Task Force" within the body of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
