About This Course
LMS is a software package that enables the management and delivery of learning content and resources to students. Blackboard is one of the most popular LMS in the world and it is used commonly by the instructors and the students at Koç University.
Instructors can manage the courses and create and share several items. The following are the main activities that instructors can do in Blackboard:
- Uploading and sharing documents, videos, images, and so on,
- Creating assignments and tests,
- Collecting and grading students’ assignments and tests,
- Calculating students’ final grades,
- Customizing the course interface,
- Creating student groups to give them group assignments or projects,
- Creating discussion boards and announcements to increase interactivity.
The following are the main activities that students can do:
- Viewing and downloading the documents shared by the instructor,
- Uploading their assignments,
- Taking tests,
- Viewing their grades, and the instructor comments on their submissions,
- Posting comments at discussion board, and,
- Viewing announcements.

Instructional Design Team Leader⎮Dr. Serhat Gürgün
Dr. Serhat Gürgün received his B.Sc. degree in Science Teaching and M.Sc. degree in Computer and Instructional Technology Education with high honor from Sakarya University. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Technology from Bahçeşehir University. Serhat has been an educator for 18 years and carried out studies and projects about educational technology, instructional design, computer supported education, constructivism, web based e-learning applications, assessment and evaluations systems, mobile education applications, content management systems, learning management systems, one-to-one education initiatives with tablets, remote teaching and blended learning at educational institutions in Turkey. He has given more than 1000 hours of training on educational technology on national and international platforms. He supported some international companies about educational technology as a consultant. In 2015, he introduced “Multifunctional Interactive Instructional Method for One-to-One Digital Learning Initiatives”. He has been shown as an inspiring educator of 2015 by BETT. Now he is an ISTE EdTech Advisor and a member of Explain Everything Advisory Board. He has been invited many international/national conferences and events such as BETT Europe, BETT MEA, ISTE, and IETC as a speaker. He has been selected an Apple Distinguished Educator by Apple Inc. in 2017. Serhat Gürgün is called one of the pioneers of one-to-one digital education in Turkey. Also, he was Co-Organizer of “Innovation in Education Summit (EİZ)” and TEDxYouth events. He joined Koç University in 2020 as an Educational Technology Team Leader.
Senior Instructional Designer⎮Seda Akgül
Seda Akgül is graduated from Boğaziçi University, majoring in Computer and Educational Technologies. She started working at Koç University in February 2018. She is an educational technologist specializing in instructional design, developing learning materials, and coaching students on computer proficiency. She also develops and runs workshops to support faculty members and teaching assistants on the effective use of technology in teaching. Her enthusiasm for teaching and learning led her to become the coordinator of CPAP (Computer Proficiency Assessment Program) and Excel Certificate Program. She became a member of the supervisory board of Eğitim Teknolojileri Derneği (Educational Technologies Association) in 2017 to contribute the equal opportunity in education.
Senior Instructional Designer⎮Melike Ekerim
Melike Ekerim is graduated from Computer Education and Instructional Technologies program in 2013 and earned her Master of Science degree in 2019 with a thesis on visual literacy from Yıldız Technical University. Following her graduation, she began to work as an educational technologist at higher education. The primary responsibilities of her position include investigating, examining, and implementing technology to improve academic success and quality, designing and developing learning materials based on instructional design principles, identifying training needs, and guiding both faculty and students in how to utilize technology effectively.
